Job hunting Rule 14:I don’t get along with my boss!

Our second question of 2014 is, “Things aren’t going well with my new boss. He says nothing but negative things and doesn’t make fair assessments. What should I do?” Let’s take a closer look at this question.

If there is a possibility to be transferred to other departments, one idea may be to submit a request for transfer to your General Manager. If you are not able to transfer, or if you would have the same boss even if you transfer, I would recommend making an effort to communicate with your boss even if you don’t get along well. For some people, they will come to understand you only after having a proper talk together. If you are avoiding your boss, it may just be that you only hear negative things or feel like you are not getting a fair evaluation.

In addition, even if you get a new boss, there is no guarantee that things will go well. What matters is if you are doing a job you enjoy, and whether you are producing results. You cannot expect a good evaluation if you do not achieve results.

First, concentrate on what you should do on your own. Considering changing your job because you don’t get along with your boss is a serious issue. Leaving your company to find a new job involves the risk of sacrificing your current stability. Please start by carefully preparing your own strategy and consider how you would be able to stay at your company.
