Job hunting Rule 15:Executive Assistants

I received the question, “I saw an executive assistant position in a job listing, but what type of job is that? What kind of requirements are there for those jobs?”

As the name suggests, an executive assistant is a person who provides assistance to the president or another executive-level employee. Executive assistants are responsible for keeping track of the executive’s schedule, ensuring smooth communication with other departments, planning meetings, interviews, and business trips, and other organizational responsibilities. You must always be aware of what your boss is asking you, and arrange necessary matters on behalf of the busy executive.

In addition, you will have to write quite a few business letters on behalf of the executive, so it is essential to have mastered how to write formal business documents.

As for the job qualifications, you will have to have worked for several years under an executive, even with the title of office assistant. You will have a greater advantage if you have five years or more experience under the title of executive assistant.
