Job hunting Rule 21:Job Hunting with OPT

Teruko Weinberg’s Job Hunting Rules!

The job market in the United States has been recovering with an increase in the number of job openings available, but there is still a tendency for companies to seek individuals who have experience. So, today I will talk about how those who wish to find employment with an OPT visa after graduating from college in the United States should approach their job search.

First, please start your job search early, including contacting employment agencies such as TWI. The OPT period is limited. Even if you have not obtained the OPT visa yet but expect to graduate, if you want to live and work in the United States after graduation we recommend that you begin your job hunting. There will be higher hurdles to overcome for those without experience, so you must be prepared as it will take time to find a job.

Those who have work experience in Japan prior to studying in the United States will have an advantage compared to inexperienced people. Even still, regardless of whether you have experience or not, you must not only insist on what you want but accept the terms of the employer. If you do not have a fairly flexible attitude about things such as moving to other states, it will be difficult. Recently, employers in states such as Texas and Michigan have been particularly active in hiring employees. Please consider taking on challenges in not only in familiar areas but in new places as well.
